Carrie Mae Weems

Distinguished photographer and artist Carrie Mae Weems was born in Portland OR in the 50's. She studied art at the California Institute of the Arts and the University of California San Diego where she received an MFA. Her photography, video and film address various dynamics within African American culture. Some subjects explored: gender, politics, identity and racism.

Weems has won numerous awards, fellowships and exhibited all over the world. Presently her show "Slow Fade to Black" can be see in NYC at Jack Shainman Gallery through May 22nd.
